Los Yébenes and surroundings

To the south of the sierra that bears its name, located 42 km from Toledo, we find the historic and extensive municipality of Los Yébenes, a municipality full of history and adventure, where cave paintings have been found, remains of the Roman road that crossed it, castles and fortresses of Arabs and Christians.

Among the most important buildings you should visit is the Church of Santa María, which houses a magnificent wood carved altarpiece and in which a thorn from the crown of Jesus Christ is preserved.

In addition to the church of Santa María, the church of San Juan Bautista, with its bell tower (both were built in the 16th century), shows the great evolution of this beautiful municipality in Toledo.

You can also enjoy the civil architecture in Los Yébenes, such as the palace of the Encomienda de San Juan and the ruins of the castle of Guadalerzas.

Los Yébenes, a village with one of the largest extensions in Spain, known mainly for its hunting population, lovers of hunting and nature.

The autumn rut

The best time of the year is undoubtedly autumn, when a phenomenon admired by many takes place: the rut. This is the time when the deer go into rut and with their guttural cries try to conquer the greatest number of hinds.

The visual and sonorous spectacle offered by these landscapes covered with forest and mountain that nature offers us, with its main protagonist and animator: the king of the forests (the deer) showing its power, fighting and defending its harem during the mating season, make it the perfect excuse to escape to Los Yébenes for a weekend.

Many people come to the Montes de Toledo in autumn to see the bellowing of the rut in the mountains as it is one of the most emblematic places to enjoy this spectacle of nature.
